Juga atas kepercayaan Ibu/Bapak dan Sahabat-sahabat selama ini.
Banyak pelajaran yang saya peroleh dari Ibu/Bapak dan sahabat semua di Martabe.

Saya akan meninggalkan Martabe namun saya akan selalu bangga pernah menjadi bagian dari team Martabe. Kita telah lalui suasana bersama itu dengan canda, suka dan duka.

Awalnya garis-garis di grafik itu tidak ada bedanya dengan garis-garis lain. Hanya sekedar garis, rangkain titik-titik yang menyambung secara rapat atau dihubungkan satu dengan yang lain. Tapi lihatlah garis-garis di grafik yang beberapa diantaranya dijadikan model. Garis-garis -yang kemudian bisa digambarkan secara lengkung dan lurus- itu menjadi bermakna ketika kita bertanya ke diri sendiri. Kenapa garis-garis itu bisa terjadi dan teratur? Padahal dari sekian ratus data yang diambil secara random.

Ternyata hikmahnya adalah: Dunia ini sudah diciptakan dengan sangat sempurna sekali. Allah Maha Kuasa.

secara resmi Konsorsium Agincourt, yang terdiri dari Agincourt Resources
Ltd dengan partner Indonesianya, sebagai pembeli saham Newmont South
East Asia Pte Ltd (NSEA).
NSEA, anak perusahaan yang sepenuhnya dimiliki oleh NMC, adalah
perusahaan yang tercatat di Singapura dan merupakan pemegang saham
terbesar di PT Newmont Horas Nauli (PT NHN), pemegang Kontrak Karya
untuk proyek Martabe.

JAKARTA, 13 July 2006 -- Newmont Mining Corporation (NMC) officially
announced that the Agincourt Consortium, comprising Agincourt Resources
Ltd and its Indonesian partners, is the successful buyer of Newmont
South East Asia Pte Ltd (NSEA).
NSEA, a wholly owned subsidiary of NMC, is a company registered in
Singapore and is the majority shareholder of PT Newmont Horas Nauli (PT
NHN), the holder of Contract of Work encompassing Martabe project.
VP Operations of NMC for Indonesia and Australia, Robert Gallagher,
said, "We are pleased that the sale of our interest in the mine project
has been completed. The sooner the mining potential at PTNHN's area is
developed, the quicker the benefits will be enjoyed by the people and
state of Indonesia."
Newmont determined the winner of the share transfer bid process after
taking into account the concerns of the Government of the Republic of
Indonesia as the sovereign holder of its natural resources.

While obviously named after one of the English River Derwents, the name - which apparently means "valley thick with oaks" - is especially appropriate. When first explored by Europeans, the lower parts of the picturesque valley were clad in thick she-oak forests, remnants of which remain in a few places.
The river is 180 km long with flows ranging from 50 to 300 tonnes per second, its large estuary forms the Port of the City of Hobart - often claimed to be the deepest sheltered harbour in the Southern Hemisphere; some past guests of the port include the USS Enterprise and USS Missouri. The largest vessel to ever travel the Derwent is the 113,000 tonne, 61 metre high, ocean liner 'Diamond Princess', which made its first visit in January 2006. At points in its lower reaches the river is nearly three kilometres wide, and as such is the widest river in Tasmania. This is a great contrast to the upper reaches of the Derwent, near the town of Derwent Bridge, where, in summer, the river often slows to a trickle and can be easily crossed with one step.
Until the construction of several hydroelectric dams between 1934 and 1968, it was prone to frequent flooding. The State of Tasmania is now almost entirely powered by hydroelectricity. Two lakes have been formed by damming the River for hydroelectric purposes: Lake Repulse and Cluny. A substantial part of the dam construction work was performed by Polish and British migrants after World War II.

Several bridges connect the western shore (the more heavily populated side of the river) to the eastern shore of Hobart - in the greater Hobart area, these include the five lane Tasman Bridge, near the CBD, just north of the port; the four lane Bowen Bridge; and the two lane Bridgewater Bridge and Causeway. Until 1964 the Derwent was crossed by the unique Hobart Bridge, a floating concrete structure just upstream from where the Tasman Bridge now stands.

Queenstown, adalah sebuah kota kecil yang terletak di bagian barat Tasmania, Australia. Kota tempat bermukim para pekerja tambang dari Hellyer, Henty, Rossebery, dan Que River ini juga merupakan salah satu tujuan obyek wisata.

Entah mana arti yang betul untuk "Error Propagation", Perambatan Kesalahan atau Kesalahan yang merambat, yang jelas materi ini adalah salah satu kuliah yang diberikan oleh Prof. Hochstein sekitar 8 tahun yang lalu di Geothermal Institute, Univ. of Auckland. Materi kuliah ini sederhana dan disampaikan dengan bahasa yang 'tercerna. Paling tidak buatku.

Pada intinya, dalam hitung-hitungan praktek sehari-hari, menurut Prof. Hochstein, tidaklah ada yang absolut. Sebagai contoh, dalam pengukuran luas meja dengan lebar 5 cm dan luas 10 cm, tidaklah sama dengan 50 cm2. Tergantung alat ukur yang digunakan saat pengukuran tersebut. Sedangkan alat ukur menggunakan ketelitian dan 'angka penting' yang berbeda-beda.

Situated about 120km (72 miles) northwest of Santiago, Valparaíso is the second biggest city in Chile and the Capital of the Fifth Region.

In 2003 Valparaíso was declared a World Heritage Site, due to its historical importance, natural beauty, original architecture and layout.

There are a large number of historical Monuments within the city of Valparaiso. One of the oldest is the 'La Matriz del Salvador' church in the port area just below the Santa Domingo Hill. It was originally built in 1559 and was rebuilt again in 1837 as the church that can be seen today (with its slightly slanted tower).
Funicular or 'Ascensor' in Valparaíso, Chile

You will find many funiculars, known as 'ascensores' throughout Valparaíso. These are a way for local people to be taken to and from their homes high up in the picturesque hillside neighbourhoods. Some of the 'ascensores' where built as early as 1883.

These are a must do when you visit the city as you will get to see some amazing views from them as you go up.

A large percentage of Chilean exports go through Valparaíso, the country's main port. In the 19th century, before the Panama canal was built, Valparaíso was a stop-off point to take on new supplies when ships were travelling between Europe and the west coast of the United States.

Muelle Prat (Prat Wharf) can be found at the foot of the Plaza Sotomayor, one of the main squares of Valparaíso. Muelle Prat is the only wharf where the public can closely watch the loading and unloading of the ships from a safe distance. You will find a typical handicrafts market at this wharf and boat trips around the harbour can also be taken from here.

Valparaíso is home to Chile's naval headquarters and also the National Congress.

Valparaíso is the only city in Chile where you can still travel by Trolleybus. The route is a little over 8 km taking you between Av. Argentina and the Aduana (Customs). The oldest working Trolleybus in the world that is still in its original condition can be found doing its rounds in Valparaíso.

Many cruise ships use Valparaiso as a stopover port. Some people even fly into Santiago and take a transfer to the city where they start their cruise. Transfers can be organised at the airport.

LESSON 1. ACT LIKE A REAL GEOLOGIST

•don't eat quiche. They don't even know what it is. Real geologists like raw meat, beer and tonsil-killer chili.
•don't need rock hammers. They break samples off with their bare hands.
•don't sit in offices. Being indoors drives them crazy. If they'd wanted to sit in offices they'd have become geophysicists.
•don't need geophysics. Geophysicists measure things nobody can see or feel, make up a whole lot of numbers about them, then drill in the wrong places.
•don't go to meetings, except to point at a map and say "DRILL HERE" and leave.
•don't work 9 to 5. If any real geologists are around at 9am it's because they're going to a meeting to tell the managers where to drill.
•don't like managers. Managers are a necessary evil, for dealing with bozos from Human Resources, beancounters from Accounting and other mental defectives.
•don't make exploration budgets. Nervous managers make exploration budgets. Only insecure mama's boys try to stay within exploration budgets. Real geologists ignore exploration budgets.
•don't use compasses. That smacks of geophysics. Real geologists always know exactly where they are, and the direction of the nearest place where beer is available.
•don't make maps. Maps are for novices, the forgetful, managers and pansies who like to play with coloured pencils. A real geologist will only draw a map to show the ill-informed managers where to drill.
•don't write reports. Bureaucrats write reports, and look what they're like.
•don't have joint venture partners. Partners are for wimpy bedwetters who are unable to think big.
•don't use computers. Computers are for geophysicists, other nerds and limp-wristed quiche eaters who can't think for themselves.

The true geologist will never spare himself when his work is in question. He must be prepared to work long hours, to endure cold and heat and wet and hunger, and at all times risk life and limb (though not without consideration of the advantage to be gained). He should allow no difficulty that can be overcome to stop him. Streams must be forded, precipices climbed, tent and clothes and food swagged many miles up and down stream, through bush, up mountain sides etc.

My Passion in Geology

I was in about five years old when my dad gave me a diary book. Its my first diary book. Imagine it!!! I was just five years old when he gave me the book. I could read magazine and newspaper started in these time.
I don't know if such things in the past influence my passion in geology. Is it a coincident? I don't know. I just just know, Allah has ruled our path.

A day in the life

One geologist said she owns a bumper sticker which reads “I’ve got rocks in my head.” A little levity may be appreciated in between analyzing rock formations, interpreting data, and fieldwork studying rocks. Geologists who are reviewing land in the field or consulting on environmental issues can expect to spend five to fifteen hours a day outdoors, usually during the more pleasant months of the year. They take samples and measurements and explore underneath the initial layers of the earth. Once they’ve completed their field work, most return to the lab and test their samples for content and composition.

One geologist said, “You’ll be asked simple questions, and you’ve got to come up with ways of answering them when no one method is foolproof. Is there oil under here? If so how much? How long will it take to get it out? Those questions can only be answered with probabilities, not certainties.”

It takes a person not only good at approaching problems but also good at dealing with people to satisfy all requirements of this occupation. Many geologists do prospective development for the potential value of land sites for the oil and gas industry. They write reports recommending whether or not to purchase a particular plot of land. A good geologist can be worth millions to a venture-capital-based oil company. “Don’t count on seeing any of the money you make for them,” wrote one semi-disgruntled geologist. Pay is low in this academic industry. Many who enter it cite the intellectual challenge and the ability to work both in a lab and outdoors as the most positive features of the profession.

Geologists appreciate the supportive and very involved community of geological scientists: “You learn every day from your peers and the world around you. It’s a perfect combination.” A geologist may find herself in the field for somewhere between three and seven months per year. Those long periods abroad can make life not so predictable for those who value family life and a stable work environment. Those who don’t work in the private sector may find work under the auspices of the largest hirer of geologists, the federal government.

Paying your dues

A geologist must have at least a bachelor’s degree in geology or geophysics. Those who wish to advance should consider a Master’s degree and, in certain cases, a Ph.D. Coursework includes such scientific staples as math, physics, chemistry, and statistics, but should also include mineralogy, stratigraphy, and structural geology. Entry-level positions, characterized by a lack of responsibility and paltry remuneration, include field research assistant and lab assistant. Most people work in teams. “I’ve never heard of an occupation that depends more on how well you work with others,” wrote one geologist, “and you’ll never hear more jokes about rocks.” Someone interested in this career should be good with numbers and people, be interested in sciences and natural formations, and should be comfortable working both alone and in groups. This person should also be willing to work long hours under uncertain working conditions (indoors and out) and be happy with a smaller-than-average paycheck.
